Hardy, what is a Schmattelatnik?
He trade with Schmattes or he wearas Schmattes, or he collect them???
When I was a little girl, I collected from a neighbor, a portnoy, some
pieces of textiles and sew them as clothes for my dolls...and my uncle
called me a Schmattelatnike...

     threadbare or tattered clothing.
  Second hand wares.
