Thanks Hardy for the wonderful old picture of the old Fischplatz, so called
because there was the fish market, my grandmother told me that every Friday
morning at 6 she went there to buy fresh carp, to cook it for the evening,
during the winter season, it would be in aspic, (, oi, oi it was so
fine,,,where went the time...)after that the name was Elisabethplatz, until
it was no more Queen Elisabeth (and you gave the name of Schillerplatz,
never called so). Theaterplatz, than in Roumanian time Piasta Vasile
Alexandri (but the Jews did not care about the new name, and called further
Theaterplatz,) until 1940, Teatralnii , than 1941-1944 Alexandri, than
defitively Teatralnii
And the beautiful Café in summer without sun.( no more fishmarket).. was
the elegant Café "Astoria", the owner Shorodoc, married to the sister of my
Jewish classmate.(In my time there were no more tables outside.)
Like the history of the town are the names of streets, of squares. of
markets, changing...and we too
Hedwig

Here is another picture of the Fischplatz, Elisabethplatz , Teatralna.
Here it is Schillerplatz..
No sunken garden with th lamps and flower beds.
A lonely Schkape mit a weigele, a beergarden and some
  market on the unpaved space.
Long before my time. The Theatre is there and Schiller stands there
and recites:
"Fest gemauert in der Erden
Steht die Form, aus Lehm gebrannt.
Heute muss die Glocke werden.
Frisch Gesellen, seid zur Hand.
    Von der Stirne heiss
    Rinnen muss der Schweiss,"
