[Cz-L] Old history

Whether what I am about to write is relevant today, I do not know,
You will decide.
In his book "Menschen und Ideen" Manfred Reifer writes:

Es war im Jahre 1905. Kischinew war von einem Pogrom heimgesucht worden.
Eine neue Fluchtlingswelle ergoss sich über die Grenze und staute sich
Erstmalig in meiner Heimatstadt. Der Russische Huliganismus rief bei der
gesamten Jüdischen Bevölkerung tiefste Empörung hervor.
Eine Protestversammlung wurde einberufen und ein Zug formiert der vor dem
Russischen Konsulate demonstrierte.
An de Spitze marschierten Dr. Max Diamant und Saul Leib Steinmetz.
Ich weiss nicht wie ich - damals 17 Jahre alt - als Dritter in der ersten
Reihe auftauchte. Kaum hatten wir das in der Herrengasse Nr. 42 gelegene
Russische Konsulatsgebäude erreicht, als auch schon der erste Stein durch
die Luft flog und eine Fensterscheibe zertrümmerte. Es war der erste
Volltreffer meines Lebens. Dr. Diamant und Steinmetz konnten mir diesen
Ausbruch jugendlichen Temperaments noch viele Jahre nicht verzeihen.

Translation:
It was in the year 1905. A pogrom had taken place in Kishinev.
A new wave of fleeing people poured across the border and remained in
my hometown. The Russian Hooliganism evoked in the whole Jewish population
the deepest dismay.
A protest-march was called and a march was formed to protest in front
of the Russian consulate.
At the head of the demonstrators marched Dr. Max Diamant and Saul Leib
Steinmetz. I do not know how I - then 17 years old - suddenly appeared as
the third person in the first row.
We had just reached the Russian consulate located at #42 Herrengasse,
when the first stone flew through the air and smashed a glass windowpane.
It was the first perfect hit of my life. Dr. Diamant and Steinmetz, could,
for many years, not forgive me this outburst of youthful temperament.
