In the beginning we were all Ostjuden - Kazimirz like.
  Then came the Habsburgs,
   Then came emancipation 1848.
This was the end of the Habsburgs but the beginning
    of the emancipated new Jew.
     The Bessere Mentsch was born.
    No more Kaftan and Lapzedekel.
      And no more Yiddish.
Hochdeutsch was spoken , mustaches were fashion .
They were good in business ,talented in the arts , writers.
Then suddenly - no more Habsburgs .
The Rumanians were not impressed by the German we mastered
          or by the mustachios.
        The magic was over.
