Leicas were very popular in Czernowitz. Before the war, my father had
one
and took beautiful photographs, which even after 75 years still look
great.
The camera vanished sometime during the war. In 1940, during the
Russian period,
both photographic film and photographic paper were unavailable.
I do not think that my father took the Leica with us to the ghetto,
either he sold it in order to have some money, or the Romanian family,
who occupied our house while we were in the ghetto, took it with them
when they left Czernowitz in 1944.
