I could not find definitive evidence that there once was a monastery
in Manastriska,
but we should accept the name of the place as evidence enough.
I do not think that the Lipovans and the Subotniki were the same
religious sect.
The Lipovans did come from Russia, where they were also called"old
time believers".
They are mentioned in "War and peace" by Tolstoy.
Some of them still live in the vicinity of Czernowitz and possibly in
the city itself.
The Subotniki still live in Czernowitz and hold their services in the
Toynbee Halle.
They are one of the larger sects of what are currently called
"Judoizing Christians".
I also believe that they are recognized as Jews by the state of Israel.
