Well, this is one topic I know something about.
When we were growing up in the Bronx, my Czernowitz-born father used to
sing a Yiddish song titled "Belz, mayne Shteytele Belz". We kids said it
sounded very much like "belch" and every time he belted out "Belz", one of
us would burp.
Thank you, Brooklyn Boy for reminding me of of those relatively
carefree days. Although Dad was around 11 when he, his parents and three
siblings immigrated to New York, he never forgot his native city.
