According to Sholem Aleichem it was the last decade of the 19-th century
when
the Jews of the East started to go away to America.
  The majority couldnt pay the fare and the Jews of Germany collected money
 for the ticket to New York , on one condition: They must not leave the
Anhalt station
  and show their faces on the streets of Berlin.
    Czernowitz Jews followed suit. But they were not in a hurry .
   Than came WW1 and Russian occupations and Jews left for South America and
    places where they got visas.
     The Jewish shop owners were doing fine . Later they went to Siberia.
