 It was the ceremony hall for the burial prayers and valedictory speeches.
   This was done one by one.
 For keeping bodies you need fridges or ice boxes .
 Multiple storage possible.

Thank you Iosif for bringing the article from the National Post to
our attention.
This is a good article and to the point.
Just one mistake in it; the building at the entrance to the Jewish
cemetery
in Czernowitz, was not an ordinary synagogue or prayer house, It was
a building
in which the bodies of the dead werekept just before being buried.
That is why it was called "Leichenhalle".
