I know of no "Brutman" from Czernowitz, but I looked
at the address books of Czernowitz from the years:
1898, 1909, 1914 and 1936.
According to these books there were in Czernowitz in 1898
two listings: Adolf Brautman and Bertha Brautman.
There were no listings for Brotman.

In 1909 there were listings for Adolf, Moritz and Chaim Nussen.
Again - no Brotman.
In 1914 Adolf Brautman and Chaim Nussen Brautman are mentioned
but no one by the name of Brotman.

In 1936 there is mention of Adolf Brautman, Moses Brautman
and also of Brotman Isidor and Brotman Nute.

In Israel, in the nineteen fifties I was in the same high-school class
with a student named Matityahu Brotman, who was also from Czernowitz.
At the time, my mother told me that she knew the family.
Matityahu, or Mati as we called him changed his surname to Lachmi,
or Lachmy. He later taught Chemistry at Beer Sheva university.
I do not know where he lives currently. He is now 76 years old
and probably retired.

I hope this helps those of you searching for Brotman, Brautman or
Brutman.
