Yes, we seniors were familiar with the movies of Lauren Bacall
and liked them a lot.
For 1898 there are only 2 listings for Weinstein in the Czernowitz
address book,
For 1909 there are 12 listings for Weinstein.
If Lauren (Betty) Bacall's mother was born in 1901, it is definitely
possible
that she was born in Czernowitz.
Many Jews left Czernowitz for America, both at the beginning of the
century,
as well as after world war two.
