Subject: [Cz-L] Recap of our trip
Hello all,
Just wanted to report to everyone that we had a beautiful trip to Bukovina
and Bucharest.
Our group (11 family members in total) arrived in Iasi on a Monday
afternoon, checked into the beautiful Hotel International (excellent hotel
with spotless rooms and great service). We then had a walking tour of Iasi.
Afterwards we returned to hotel for a glatt kosher dinner (sent by the
Chabad House in Bucharest.
The next day we set out early in the morning from Iasi toward
Cimpulung-Moldevensec (2.5-3 hr drive), the place of my father's birth and
the town in which my grandfather served as Rav for 20 years. We visited both
remaining synagogues, where one of the last two Jews remaining in the town
along with the mayor and his staff greeted us. In a nice gesture, the mayor
presented my father with an official birth certificate.
After finishing in Cimpulung, we continued on to Siret (Seret)(1.5 drive)
where we visited the Jewish cemetery and the Ohel and kever of my father's
grandmother and great grandfather. It was quite a feat to get my father up
the hill in the cemetery but it worked out well!
We were back in Iasi for dinner at 9PM.
The next day (Wednesday) we took a morning flight to Bucharest and checked
into the Radisson which was nice. We had a full day tour of the city, eating
at the Chabad House.
We wrapped up the trip the next morning flying out of Bucharest.
