Has anyone mentioned "Heidi", originally written in German by Swiss
children's book
author Johanna Spyri? I think I remember going to bed with Heidi, Peter
and the goats in the glorious Swiss mountains until my mother got tired of
pulling them out from under my featherbed.
Years later, in 1969 I had the opportunity to fly to Basel, Switzerland.
When we drove through the storybook mountains which seemed unchanged from
Spyri's day, I found myself looking for Heidi and Peter (I did see some
goats).. It's amazing how a book can challenge a child's imagination all the
way to adulthood.
