Thank you for posting this photo, Alexander. It is part of an exhibition, which is at the foot of the Nimich pass, next to a guesthouse. Another panel is dedicated to the Hasidic dynasty in Wischnitz and a third shows an ethnographic map of the region from the Austrian period. Others deal with the local Hutsuls and Ruthenians, the mult-ethnic history of the region is emphasized and not hidden.
In August this year, I was there with the volunteers who have worked in the Jewish cemetery of Czernowitz, and we walked a bit up towards the mountain pass. The path is steep, it was hot and I thought about quitting smoking.
The view over the valley and the plains is breathtaking. The Cheremosh winds through the plains, Wischnitz was clearly to be seen and behind begins Galicia.
