I am certainly under the impression that the present-day Jews of Czernowitz
are not particularly interested in maintaining the cemetery. (Or is this
unfair?) Why is this? Does this all derive from the “each person for
himself” mentality of Communist times, as Mimi suggests? Communism was a
long time ago now, have people there not grown out of this mentality yet? I
find it surprising that none of the city’s Jews volunteer to do any work in
the cemetery.

If the Jews in town do not take care of the cemetery, because living
under Communism
they became used to "each person for himself", why should the
converts be different?
