Dear Shelley:

Are you sure that the certificate is wholly in Polish (which I can sometimes read because to me it's like a strange Czech dialect with an even stranger spelling that I've now more or less mastered)? To cut to the chase, are you sure that the 'Beanite' is not rather German, 'Beamte', meaning 'official' or even 'employee'?

Does anyone read Polish? I was looking at my mother's 1919 birth
certificate from Kolomyja. Under godparents or witnesses it says
Josef Roth Beanite in Kolomea. I can't tell if Beanite is part of the
name or an occupation. On other documents, starting in 1892, the name
seems to be followed by the profession. Does anyone know if Beanite
is a profession or a name? If it's a profession, what is the
profession.

Thanks for any help you can give.

Shelley Mitchell
