Cora -

I don't understand how you can speak of the US as being anti-Semitic
when you live in a city (I assume it's NYC) that has such a large
Jewish population that we have a great deal of political and economic
influence and control. We're some of the top slum landlords in the
city. The last time I had any experience with anti-Semitism is when I
was around 20 and visited cousins in California. As soon as I said I
was from NYC, a woman I met said, "oh, you must be Jewish." You can't
begin to compare us to Czernowitz and other cities. Remember, when
anti-Semitism rises, it is only a part of the population or its
politics.

Comparatively speaking, MY OPINION is that the level of anti-semitism is far greater here in the USA and other countries although they hide it well. I have been to Cz almost every year (last trip in Nov.2013) and believe me when I say the citizens of Ukraine have "much bigger fish to fry" than to worry about a tiny population of mostly elderly Jews. They don't have the time or energy and they already have enough scapegoats to blame for their misery.
