I have been living in Melbourne Australia since November 1947 and had never
experienced an anti-Semitic remark at school or socially . In 1972 - 1974 I
was managing the Helena Rubinstein School in Melbourne . My duties were to
train pharmaceutical stuff in Skin Care and some basic Make Up Artist work
to promote our Cosmetic Range.
I was working with my staff during a promotion at Myers Department Store in
the city of Melbourne In 1974 , I was busy giving a demonstration of our new
cosmetic range and doing Make Up for a potential client , when my two girls
behind the counter started to have an argument , one said to the other one
you are a Bloody Jew during this argument .
On completion of my work I went to my counter and quietly look the two girls
aside and said to them "you will not argue at work , and you will not refer
to anybody as Bloody Jew as I am a Jewess and I do not have Horns growing
out of my head "
One of the girls very quickly said to me , but you cannot be you do not look
Jewish , I answered , how did you expect me to look, we are no different
than anybody else.
I made it quite clear to them that if there were any more incidents such as
this one I would dismiss them on the spot, which was legal at the time.
We must not burry our heads in the sand , today anti-Semitism is openly
alive and doing well in the broader community , It is still difficult for
young people to obtain work in Australia in certain Companies and
professions , the only difference is that by law they can do longer ask what
your religion is .
I pray that the world will become a better place to live in, for my
grandchildren but at the moment we are almost at a stage where we could be
facing a 3rd World War .
We must have peace in Israel and the rest of the World will follow.
Shalom Ljuba German.
