To all who wrote about the picture of my father and I:

Hardy achieved his goal of getting a lot of "action" on our list !

My father is wearing "Pumphosen", they were fashionable
in the late thirties and early forties.
At a time when people mostly walked, rather than driving by car,
men's trouser would get spattered by mud or snow and dry cleaning
wool trousers was expensive. If a man wore Pumphosen,
only his socks would get spattered and those were easy to wash.

I am wearing " Gamaschen" those were similar to modern leggings,
but had fasteners along the leg and did not replace socks.

The same kind of pavement as is seen in my photograph,
can be seen in many photographs from the same period,
taken in other locations in Czernowitz.
I can send copies of such to anyone who wants to see them.
