The location of the Meisler School as described by the late Lucca Ginsburg
is correct and precise. She and her parents lived on Landhausgasse 13B.
Alternatively, one can also reach the former School building, coming from
St. Peter's Platz (the St. Peter Church), directly to the corner of
Nikolausgasse and Landhausgasse.

Subject: [Cz-L] Two Questions on Behalf of Ulrich Gansert

Czernowitzers...

On behalf of Ulrich Gansert from Vienna (see Cc), who is planning a research
trip to Czernowitz, I'd like to raise the following questions:

1. What is the exact address of the Meisler School? Lucca Ginsburg wrote in
2003: "When entering the Landhausgasse from the Hauptstrasse and walking
along until the end of the street, one reaches the last building, which is
the corner house of Landhausgasse and Nikolausgasse. It was (is) a plain,
unadorned building, a rarity among the many proud Baroque buildings of
Czernowitz."

2. From John Felstiner's Paul Celan biography we learn, that according to
Paul Celan's friend Ruth Lackner, she found him in June 1942 a hiding place
in a cosmetics factory. Paul urged his parents to seek refuge with him, but
his mother was resigned: "We can't escape our fate. After all, there are
already lots of Jews in Transnistria." What was the name of this cosmetics
factory and where exactly was (is) it?

In case you can assist please let us know and/or contact Ulrich directly.
Thank you very much in advance!
