Czernowitzers...

Thanks to Irene I've updated the posting on the "Tramway and Electrical Lighting Equipment in Czernowitz"

http://ehpes.com/blog1/2014/11/25/tramway-and-electrical-lighting-equipment-in-czernowitz/

by adding an article from "Der Tag" dated June 12, 1932 reporting on the 35th anniversary of the implementation of electrical power in Czernowitz. Some highlights from the text:

- initial ignition of an electric light during a ball of the academic fraternity "Lesehalle" in the middle of the 1890ies,
- followed by the electrification of the Hotel Central, Hotel Schwarzer Adler and the Magistrate,
- inauguration of the first power station in Czernowitz in 1896,
- inauguration of the Czernowitz tramway on August 1, 1897,
- 12 electrical tramway cars in 1899,
- implementation of the street lighting at the end of the 19th / beginning of the 20th Century,
- doubling of the tramway track at the beginning of the 20th Century,
- power station powered by diesel engines, starting with 250 HP in 1903 up to 9000 HP in 1931,
- 24 electrical tramway cars in 1932.

On Althgasse the power plant was in danger of collapsing so it moved from there to Pruthgasse. For those, who read German, enjoy the anecdotes of the article on the approach of the Czernowitzers to electricity as devil's work!

In order to visualize the Czernowitz tramway system designed and manufactutured by Siemens-Schuckert, I've uploaded the relevant illustrated pamphlets to our ehpes.com Blog:
