Edgar,
Thank you for the invitation.
This is what I know:
Herta Raschkes (b. Czernowitz - March 29, 1945) my mother, daughter of:
Leo Raschkes (b. Itzkany, Romanina - March 13, 1905, lived in Czernowtiz. Attended Real Gymnasium No. 2), son of:
Karl Raschkes (b. 1884, not certain of location, lived in Czernowitz ) son of:
Emil Raschkes (b.1843, not certain of location, lived in Czernowitz ) son of:
Ignatz Raschkes (b. ?, lived in Czernowtiz)
I have found a couple addresses for Karl and Emil on databases you have compiled, Edgar. During my visit to Chernivsti this past summer I discovered and got copies of my mother and uncle’s birth certificates as well as my grandparents’ marriage certificate.
I was unable to find in the archives my grandfather Leo listed in the high school records. My intent in doing so was to find a classmate of his with the surname Sion. This man (Sion) was responsible for falsifying papers for my grandparents and hiding them in Targu Ocna, Romania, during the war. Sion was in the Romanian military.
Neither of these men was listed in the school records that I could find. If any of you have any other ideas as to how to find information about Sion I would be most grateful.
Thank you, friends, for your help!
Arly

My mother and her brother were told that my grandfather worked as an actor and possibly director in the Czernowitz Jewish Theater. This would have been in the 1920s and 30s. Do any of you know if an archive of any kind was kept on the work done in the theater, or where I could even begin trying to research this?
