Was not aware of your birthday, but hope you had a good and rewarding
day, can still wish you many happy returns!
Furthermore, thank you for the fascinating photographs of your new
trip,as well as you comments. Waiting for photos of Vatra Dornei, in
Czernowitz language called Dorna Vatra, maybe the German influence or
simpler to pronounce. Hardy knows for certain.
Please tell your friend that we too, are great fans of Joseph Schmidt,
he was one of the greatest tenors of his time, with a most unusually
beautiful and pronounced voice. He sang not only opera and operetta, but
impressive religious music (Chazanut). His voice had a tragic undertone
which was well suited for the many operas with a tragic subject. My
husband's mother took some lessons with him, when he sang in the
synagogue in
Czernowitz, she sang in the choir.
