We spent many hours exploring the cemetery of Gura Humora.
With early preparation we managed to locate the grave of my great grandfather David (died in 1936), his elder sister Bertha Kissman (d. 1923), my grandfather brother in law Jacob Fischler, and many other relatives of people we know.
We found a grave of young boy that perished in the big fire that destroyed the entire village in the eve of Shavuot 1899.

While we are excited with all the discovery, and after fixing the Epitaph on David's gravestone, my 16 years old daughter Noam told me:
"this cemetery is not a sad cemetery".

I thought for a while and realized that with her sharp logic she is right.

Practically, the cemetery is (almost) not active since the deportation on Oct 10th 1941.
Before the deportation, people lived and died naturally as everywhere else.
Not Pogroms or plague. Just a natural life of living community.
Over the last 70 years only few new graves were added.
So- for us, this place is a history book, with interesting stories and facts of people we never met, but heard of.

The sad story of this community if farther east, in the desolated cemeteries of Mogilev, Murafa, Shargorod, and other places in Transnistria.
