With the 'cultural cleansing" of the new Romanian conquerors it became forbidden to use another language in commerce or public transactions in Czernowitz. Most public employees, including teachers, professors and Medical Drs abandoned the city and started a new life in Vienna. THe fines and punishments of the Rumanians were very strict.
