I am new to the list (I'm not sure what took me so long...) but very happy =
to be here.
I am searching for information about my father, Nathaniel Feuerstein (a/k/a=
 "Nuti" Feuerstein, Nathaniel Firestone, Nat Firestone - 1926 - 2007) and t=
he Feuerstein family.
Here is a brief bio (I'm happy to share more information with anyone who ma=
y be interested): My father's parents were Karl (a/k/a Chaim) Feuerstein a=
nd Regina Meidler. Karl was one of 8 children of Nathan Feuerstein and Fri=
ma Liebster (Sophie Kossman; Michael; Norbert; Malzia; Rosa; Regina; a=
nd Richard). Karl owned a shop that sold woolens and other material for cl=
othing. Regina was a public school teacher. My father was an only child. =
Karl died in 1939 and Regina died in 1942, both of natural causes. My fat=
her was in Czernowitz throughout the war - he was fortunate in that their h=
ome was in the Ghetto. Among other jobs, he made signs for one of the cine=
mas (his competitor at the other cinema later became a close friend and roo=
mmate - Arnold Horowitz, who also came to the US to study and eventually mo=
ved to Venezuela - I am in touch with Arnold's children). Nuti escaped aft=
er the Russian liberation in 1944 and made his way to Italy where he studie=
d architecture in Torino before coming to the U.S. in 1949 to continue his =
studies. Nuti changed his name to Firestone when he arrived in the U.S., i=
n deference to his sponsor and aunt, Augusta Firestone (whose husband, Rich=
ard 1888-1944, a professor at Rollins College, was an uncle). At the time =
of his death Nuti lived in Fort Lee, NJ, though I grew up in Yonkers, NY an=
d from 1976 - 2003 my parents lived in Houston, TX.
Bruce Reisch kindly forwarded me a photo of a tombstone for a "Chaim" Feuer=
stein in Czernowitz which I was able to confirm is in fact my grandfather K=
arl/Chaim -- I am amazed and touched (thank you Bruce).
Regards,
John Firestone
