Good morning all!
I am delighted to become a member of this community. Thanks for giving me a chance to learn, discuss, and enjoy everything about Chernowitz and its people.
I have roots in the city too due to my family's residency there in the 1800's to early 1900's.
Sadly, I have been unable to dig up any information on them except after the emigrated to New York.
I only know they lived in Chernowitz and in nearby Storozhynets from the immigration and naturalization documents I've gathered from ancestry.com.
I've read many artickes and biographies about Chernowitz, but no mention of my surname.
I haven't seen my nane posted by anyone from Chernowitz. But I haven't given up.
I only know of my grandfather Samuel Merksamer, his brother Jacob, and their parents Bernard and Nettie. I can't find out if there are any other family members.
So I am looking here for some clues or some help.
It's been a long and tedious search so far, but I am retired and have some time to out into it.
I never met any of my Chernowitz family. They died long before I was born. And now theur spouses and children are deceased too.
There are very few of us left with the Americanized surname of Marksamer. Either Samuel or Jacob changed the spelling soon after they left Ellis Island.
So I am searching for Merksamer only.
I know many of you have been back to Chernowitz to walk the streets if tour ancestors. One day, I will return there too. I feel a strong connection
[Lloyd Marksamer]
