נושא: [Cz-L] Sadagura - How religious the Jews in Cz. were
To my personal knowledge, I was 16 when I left the city, the Jews I
knew were traditional but not what you call religious. My uncle was a
Cohen, studied in the court of the Sadagura Rebbe layed Tfillin every
morning to the day he died, his brother in law was Pinie Spektor the
Rebbe and cantor of the Kor Shil, a man I personally adored for his
music and his prayer songs, which he wrote himself, - somewhere
related to Joseph Schmidt, all the same size too -. The "Awenu
Malcheinu" Barbara Streisand sings I only heard singing by Pinie, I
suppose he wrote it. My grandfather was a religious man, sat with his
black hat and prayed but read Marx and Engels as well as his prayers,
the one had nothing to do with the other, his "fellows" at shul called
him " der Roiter" which he thought was right.
The rest of the family were traditional. I well remember them going to
Shul on holydays but otherwise had little to do with religion. I
picked the thread up for them and tried to bring it to my family but
they're all on the left of the map - maybe one day they will after me.
I can well understand Mimi's family for leaving the city. It certainly
was not Mea-Shaarim. My Great- Great Grandmother went to Jerusalem to
die and I live in Israel with my family to LIVE!!
