Mimi,
Why should you be beleidigt ?
Is the Balkan demeaning ?
Are the Carpats more honorable ?

Dear Edgar,

Have a nice and safe ride to Istanbul!
Your descriptions of your trip are as always very interesting And I am
amazed at your endurance and love of adventure.
But this time I also want to protest about one of your remarks; You write:
"...joining me on my motorcycle ride to the Balkans"

Ich bin sehr beleidigt (I am deeply offended ).
Romania is in the Balkan Peninsula. It has and is considered part Of the
Balkans with all that is meant by this.
But Czernowitz? Czernowitz is not in the Balkan Peninsula And except for the
brief period when it was ruled by Romania, Could also not be described as a
Balkan country.
Even during that Romanian period, most of the inhabitants Behaved and
thought like "Middle Europeans".

All the best,

Mimi

You make my day, but you'll need even more perseverance, since we are still
on the way to Istanbul, our final destination. Different than originally
planned, from Odessa I didn't take the ferry to Batumi in Georgia, due to
its delayed departure and specially to the unacceptable customs clearence
procedures in Ukraine and Georgia (6h + 3h) respectively. Therefore, running
on my own - in Odessa repaired - wheels, next stop:

"cosmopolitan city", stating that "Turks, Jews, Roma, Lipovan-Russians,
Bulgarians, Armenians, Greeks, Hungarians, Germans, Ukrainians, Polish,
Albanians and Italians lived 'in good friendship' with the Romanians settled
here, each of them having their well-established place in the community,
each of them writing in their own way a page in the history of Brăila."
Doesn't that sound very familiar to Jews from Bukovina? Well, as a matter of
fact, the cityscape shows many striking parallels between these two cities,
but...!?
