Some of the events describe[d] are so bizarre that they defy logic.
As an American who did not have a European family to escape from or perish in the Holocaust, I find it difficult to comprehend the rules brought against the Jews of Europe.
It was sometimes good to be Romanian Jew in Germany, and often bad in Romanian Bukovina..
It was never good to be German Jew in Germany.
It was usually good to be a Romanian Jew in Old Romania, especially if you served in the military. It was not so good to be a communist even when the Soviets invaded Bukovina.
But it was fairly good to be a Jew in Shanghai. The Jews had it no worse than anyone else there and managed to survive.
