I've been following this with great interest. My Great Uncle Rudolf Soewy (born in Czernovitz) was a lieutenant in the Austro Hungarian Army during WW1 and then went on to become the Director of the Industry Bank in Krakow. Just waiting for his army record to come back from the translators but I did spot that he was at the Officer training Academy in Vienna between 1909-10 and then in the army balloon observation corps. He remained on the Polish Army officer reserve list until 1929.
Incidentally I am still trying to track down other members of his family so any information about Salamon and Ernestyna Soewy and their other descendants gratefully received!
Sophy

Just curious. How many of you had soldiers in Austro-Hungarian army in WW I who were officers or useful professionals, like doctors?
