Dear Mimi,
I was not there, but judging by the press coverage and social networks
the local reaction was warm and accepting. All local and some national
media outlets covered the story, both before and after the event
(links listed below). The mayor participated and spoke about "our
common history and common memory". It was on Friday, a day before the
official opening of a huge annual fair, so the city was full of
visitors, who must have seen the ceremonies.
