Unfortunately, we all have friends that have made our connection to our
Czernowitz possible who are suffering because of the effects of Putin's
warmongering. My guide, driver and adopted brother Serhiy Bilichenko of
Lviv, who has helped many of us in the Czernowitz archives, finding our
Bukovina roots, and even in my case clearing the cemetery where my
grandmother is buried, was called up earlier this year and is performing
military service, leaving his wife and young daughter behind and himself
unable to work and earn.
