At one stage ,if a Czernowitzer was asked what nationality he was the answer came "Don't know yet...have not had time to look at today's paper". Cornel.

I know what you mean. My grandmother and mother have their attachment to the town they were born in. It was hard to keep up with who "owned" it as time went by but they fit in somewhat because they spoke multiple languages. But her birth certificate said Austro-Hungarian and she said that that's where she was from. My mother, born in the same town, said she was Polish because that's what her papers said.
