Apropos of our discussion of the song about drinking red wine--and
Miriam's request for a translation:
I realized that the album made as a tribute to Maria Tanase--the
Balanescu Quartet's "Maria T"--does contain a version of the red wine
song. I cannot attest to how literal or appropriate a translation it is,
but here goes:
Great is rose wine
Harvested in late autumn
On frost, in snow
I drink a lot but don't get drunk
I swore not to drink again
But I cannot resist
Great is the wine, and I like it well
Beloved wine, of rare fruit
Climbs to the head without a ladder
Beloved wine of green grapes
Makes you blind drunk
Great is wine and tasty too
When you drink it with a handsome man
But if you drink it with a minger
It gets stuck down your throat
