There was a strong underground Communist party and my father was an active member. He told me when I was an adolescent that he left the party as a result of the "corruption" he saw as he moved up the ranks. He did not go into details and was well into myself as an adolescent so that in those years Czernowitz meant little to me. Life such as it is.
