Dear David,

I am speechless. It is not only about the well fitting clothes, but about the well nourished, well groomed children. A few girls even had pigtails.

In our Bershad orphanage, we did not have water and soap to wash ourselves; therefore we were dirty, lice infested. To prevent further infestations, our head were shaven.
At the end 1943, we too, received a crate of used clothing from the JOINT. When the crate was opened, the children attacked the contents with a frenzy. Boys grabbed girl’ blouses and girls grabbed men’ knickerbockers.
Tall boys ended up with shorter pants, the girls with a dress too long. I grabbed a blue handkerchief to cover my bald head.

Seeing the photo of the Moghilev orphans made me wonder.

Ruth
