Dear Hardy et al:

I can only speak for myself but in my opinion Ehpes is still a "going concern" and not yet ready for "retirement." Still, I hear you loud and clear - the silent majority needs to become more active in the discussion and post more frequently. We can't just rely on the senior tier because there will come a day when they can no longer provide the leadership we enjoy and have come to rely on. I have already said I will endeavour to do more in the New Year and I think it is imperative that others try and do the same. If and when this happens the List may move in different directions but that could also be valuable.

I joined the List about 2005 and, not long after, got involved in planning the Reunion. I had no idea how enriching the experience would be but it has been nothing short of phenomenal. I have met many wonderful people who have helped me with my research and posts to the List provided the context I needed to better understand the Czernowitz (where my mother was born in 1921 and where my father lived from 1918-1930). What I learned along the way provided a backdrop for a memoir I wrote for my children and grandchildren in 2013.

Bruce and Jerome have ensured a lasting legacy for us with the amazing resources the Ehpes website provides and Edgar's blog has extended this even further. I believe the next generation has much to say but may well feel intimidated about posting when they can't speak with the same appreciation and understanding of all the ins and outs and nooks and crannies of Cz that Hardy, Hedwig, Cornel, Abraham, Berti, Josif, Ruth, and others have. (I am sure I will have offended other senior members who also actively contribute but whose names do not immediately spring to mind - to them I offer sincere apologies).

Now, we in the next generation need to do our part and start contributing - even if it moves the List in new directions. Hopefully, you and the other senior "leaders" will support and encourage us as we move forward.

Simon
