To all members of the Czernowitz-list,
my name is Torsten, and I am involved in some historical research
concerning the book trade history of Czernowitz. I write to you because
I do hope to get some help and support. Please, tell me what you know
about one of the four following topics
a) bookshop "Literaria" with lending library and publishing house
Here I do look for any biographical information about
Günt(h)er Niedermayer
Norbert Mundu Niedermayer (1905-1940)
Rakhel Niedermayer, née Fish (died 1940)
Gerson Geniu Niedermayer
Samuel / Shmuel Niedermayer, from Kotzman, married to Tauba,
Osian Niedermayer, also from Kotzman,
Miss Ebenstein, worked in the bookshop "Literaria"
Dr. Bernfeld, probably a former co-owner of the bookshop, got arrested
at end of May 1934 by the Romanian police,
Lilly Gabe-Habermann, worked also in the book shop and was maybe a
relative of the Niedermayer family.
b) Still living members of the Niedermayer family?
I have found that PDF:
http://www.crt-ii.org/_awards/_apdfs/Nidermayer_Samuel.pdf
That's why I suppose there might be still living members or relatives of
the Niedermayer family. Does anybody know them and could help me to get
in contact with them? Does anybody knows anything about a firm named
after "Bukowiner Wolle Aktien Gesellschaft" (BuWAG)?
c) The library in the so-called "Polish house"
During the late summer of 1940 the Russians established a new library in
the so-called "Polish house" in Czernowitz which was opened by end of
September 1940. It is to be supposed that its books originated from the
bookshop "Literaria" of the Niedermayer family, and from there lending
library, too. Does anybody know anything about that new library? What
happened to the books after July 1941? Where were they brought to?
d) Photographs of the bookshop or the Niedermayer family
It would be very useful to get some pictures showing the bookshop and
the owner family. So if anybody should still have some old pictures,
please, do not hesitate to contact me - it would be an important
enrichment and contemporary document helping to preserve memory of
Czernowitz!
I would like to thank to all of you reading my message and providing me
with any further information. I would be glad to learn more about the
book trade history of Czernowitz.
With my best personal wishes for all of you!
Faithfully yours,
Torsten.
