Hardy, you are right to question the figure of 1500...4 years ago one of the
people from the University said they estimated between 2500 to 3000 Jews in

In Czernowitz there are currently two active synagogues; the one of rabbi
Kofmanski and the other of rabbi Glisenshtain.
The city is mostly well maintained and the Jewish population numbers about
1500.
There is also a Jewish school and a Jewish Kindergarten.
Smaller towns in which there before WW2 sizable Jewish communities, to the
best of my knowledge, currently have no Jews living in them.
