Dear Hardy, dear Berti, dear list members,
Selma was as Romanian as you were, with her roots in the K.u.K. Imperial
Austria, and with her language, also Czernowitz-Austrian-German,
although her written German was impecable. Yes, Jewish, and a relative
of my mother, Ria Meerbaum, second-grade cousins through their fathers.
(am a little bit proud!).
I believe she is indicated as Ukrainean so that the majority of readers
who are not aware of the past of Czernowitz, can locate it more easily.
In the book, the whole history is of course well-explained.
A great bravo to Marion, she invested a lot of time, and a lot of
research for this biography, she also proves a delicate understanding of
poetry. And it is not her first biography of a poet.
Hopefully this biography will be translated into English soon.
Gabriele
