Actually my cousin, Nick Martin, who was one of the original members but is
no longer active, was born in England, not the US, and came to New York as a
child, along with his dad and sister Jenny, and their grandmother (we always
thought Jenny's name was Ginny, though, because that's what it sounded like
in their cute British accents.) Our grandmothers were sisters, but hadn't
seen each other in many years when Nick's grandmother came to the US. In the
1950's.
Not that it matters much, there's still the same point, none of the founders
of this list were born in Cz, for whatever it's worth. But what's so
wonderful is that so many people have an interest, whether they were born
there, have relatives from there, have ever been there, or have developed
their own interest apart from any familial relationship, like our friend
Christian Hermann, and many of the volunteers from my and other volunteer
groups, many of whom are not even Jewish, and some of whom have gone on to
study Cz history, Yiddish, etc.
