Glad so many people enjoyed the post of with the Austrian man singing the
Manger song with the refugees. And yes, Bruce clarified right away that th=
e
post wasn't off topic, he was just concerned that we might go off topic
discussing the refugee situation.

I am still trying to find out more information about the wordless
vocalizations that are so prevalent in Yiddish songs, like the one in the
video, the one Tevye sings in Fiddler, zum gally gally, etc.

Do other Manger songs have them? Does anyone know more about them? Whe=
n
I google biddy biddy bom I only come up with reference to a song by Selena
in Spanish!! I'm going to ask my World Music professor today, but don't
know how much he knows about Yiddish.

I'm always interested in the traditions and folkoric aspects. Remember as =
a
kid being amazed that in Israel people ate donuts, not latkes, for Chanukah=
.
What did/do people in Czernowitz eat for the holiday? Or other places that
group members hail from?

And, is it "kosher" if I bake latkes to avoid the oil, circumventing the
whole point??!!

Happy Chanukah, everyone.

Joanna
