Marilyn , as a believer in generics there is a problem.
Contact your newly found relative and let him know.
Let him dig from his side and maybe you two will meet,
What happens next ?
BTW we have a list member Prof Gad Rennert who knows something on the subje=
ct.
He suggested we drop this subject for the time being,
Hardy

Subject: [Cz-L] Czernowitz relative found through 23andMe
For those who are looking for Czernowitz relatives, as I am -
I did the genetic testing with 23andMe about a year ago. 23andMe provides =
the user with a list of other users who are genetic relatives, indicating t=
he degree of proximity.
Recently, someone showed up on my relatives list as a 2nd cousin - named Ru=
dman, the maiden name of my Czernowitz great-grandmother. I wrote to him, =
and it turned out that he had emigrated as a child, with
his parents, in 1990, from Czernowitz to New York. We are not sure
exactly how we are related, but this is obviously much more than a coincide=
nce, since the genetic evidence is there.
I know that, like me, other people look for links to their relatives for ye=
ars, often without a great deal of success. I would just like to suggest t=
hat genetic testing (not invasive, only involves spitting into a tube) can =
be another useful way of finding people.
There seem to be a very large number of Ashkenazic Jews in the 23andMe data=
base. (Incidentally, I found out that my husband is my distant cousin, and=
that his Bukovina cousin is also my cousin, on both my mother's side and m=
y father's side.)
With best wishes to the other seekers,
Marilyn
