I read the letters regarding a Holocaust museum in Chernivtci and come back
again and again to the question "What would be the purpose of such a museum
and what would be displayed in it?"

In my opinion it could not be a proper museum, because except for some photographs,
Copies of documents and numerical tables, there is nothing to display in it.

If our interest is in having a memorial to the Jews of Czernowitz and vicinity
Who perished in the holocaust, we should have a memorial in a central place
In the city, for instance, near the Turkish fountain, or in the small garden
Adjacent to the temple, on the former Karolinengasse.
(In that area there is already a memorial Plaque to Traian Popovici, which dös
Mention the Holocaust.
If we want more than a memorial, and because the Holocaust affected
Czernowitz Jews so profoundly, the Jewish Museum in the former "Kultus-Gemeide"
Should be enlarged and include a display about the Holocaust as it affected
The Jewish community.

The building of the former "Leichenhalle" should be stabilized and returned
To its former use; a mortuary and prayer house in which people gather before a prayer.

The money which has been collected or promised so far, could be used to enlarge
And Maintain the current Jewish museum and to prevent further damage to the building
Of the Leichenhalle.
