The word "Schmetten" is obviously derived from the Ukrainian or Polish "Smetana".
Having just returned from Ukraine, I think that the kind of "Schmetten" you get in the Ukraine,
Is among the best I have ever tasted.
And since we are writing on the subject of food, does anyone remember the words,
Yiddish, or German, or Ukrainian, we used to name raw potato pancakes and
Cooked potato pancakes?
