Thanks, Mimi. I was not involved in the planning stages of the memorial, but assume that the location is symbolic while the memorial is to you and all others that you mention. I personally did not find my offer to help objectionable. My grandmother was a young teen during the war, and went through a similar path, so I learned that whether through personal or collective memories, memorials, books, online collections, museums, online museums, stories to my children or any other means of keeping alive the collective memory - the goal is mutual. Through this project, I connected with a number of people of my generation with this shared family experience. This was not intended to start a controversy, but simply to let the group know.
Thanks,
Kira
