Illumination of streets.
Before electricity came to town
Lighting of streets was by carbide.
Every evening the attendant would
Lower the lamp put new carbide in
activated it by water producing
Acetylene gas , ignited it and raised
the lamp in position to keep the criminals away. The city jail the"
Kriminal"
was not too far away.
Or falling into an
open sewer which led to the Prut..
