Hello everyone,
I will try to post additional photos from the
unveiling of the memorial. The rough translation of the first interview
(the man with the red tie is my father, Ilya Khoch, who as I previously
mentioned built the memorial - with the support of many) is
that the memorial is located at the site of the old Jewish ghetto,
where local authorities forced thousands of people to be displaced from
their homes before ultimately marching a lot of people to the trains and
further on to Transdnistria, etc. from where tragically, many
(including his grandfather) did not return. He noted that this is in
memory of all of the victims of the Holocaust and a reminder for the
need of peace.
The second speaker is a representative from the
Israeli consulate to Ukraine. He said that this is a reminder not only
of the Jewish tragedy but of a tragedy of all people when one race
considers itself superior and determines acceptable to exterminate
people on the basis of ethnicity and beliefs.
