Dear Ruth,

Congratulations on your discovery and I wish you success for your upcoming lecture. I wish I had the opportunity to attend this event.

Your story reminds me of a letter from my grandfather Elias Hauster to my father Julius Hauster, dated 07.10.1948 - The Hunger After Blood Ties:

http://radautz.blogspot.de/2008/02/071048-die-familie-hauster.html

An excerpt from this letter reads as follows: "For my paternal aunt’s sake a brother (or nephew?) of the late Hungarian Catholic archbishop Hussar converted to Judaism. From this marriage came 2 (or 3?) sons, who don’t live any more: one of them was a pharmaceutical chemist and director of a perfume factory (Josef Hussar), the other one was the editor of the weekly paper „Bursa“ [The Stock Market] from Bucharest. I started to conduct my correspondence with both of them living in Bucharest about 28 years ago. Josef sent a package with perfumes and liquors to us, products of the factory managed by himself, while the "Bursa" director came accompanied by his distinguished spouse to Czernowitz in order to see us and used to send to me - until his dying day - „The Stock Market“ free of charge. He might have left behind 2 sons, perhaps daughters too, all of them reverted to their ancestral Christian faith and married to Christians resepectively. Should you come across this tribe, perhaps it would make sense to refresh the relations. Since your divorce associated with the breakup of your relationship to the Greifs, for your own good we have a real ravenous hunger after new blood ties."

As a matter of fact, like you, I have researched the Hussar family, discovered them in Romania and added them to my family tree. They didn't know that they had a - maternal! - Jewish blood ties within their "tribe"...?!

Edgar Hauster
